"We had better luck getting vaccine across demographics."

Message Replied To ==========

The bias continues

The Miami Herald and SunSentinal still report on doomsday predictions regarding DeSantis that don’t come true...but by then they have moved on to the next false prophecy.

As I have said before, the latest is that vaccines were taken from minorities and given to elderly whites. The facts don’t support that...vaccines were prioritized to those most at risk of dying i.e. those over 65...and because of the northerners who retire here they are predominantly white as compared to the general population. Most of the state run vaccine centers were in minority dominant neighborhoods to make it easier for them to travel to the vaccine. Yet, due to vaccine hesitancy in those communities, they did not sign up.

In my own county I was called every Saturday by my local health department with leftover vaccine doses from people that did not show up (between 10-25 every week) and I have spent the Saturday afternoons in Jan and Feb calling patients I knew to be at risk to get these leftover vaccines as opposed to them being wasted.

The health department has since set up their own “call list” so I no longer have to so that.==============================

Our independent pharmacy is in a majority minority area, and initially there was an imbalance.  But by working through local churches, politicians, and civic organizations, it really turned around.  Today we will surpass 12,000 total vaccinations.
