Difference of degree but not of kind. I was shocked at the Trump riot and never excused or minimized it. I know some here did and I think that is absurd. The people who owned a business last month and today do not are wondering where the authorities were just like much of America as the mob broke into the capital bldg.

I never saw them as a real threat because they were disorganized, small scale and the people who entered the Capital building are, by and large, idiots. I was surprised and disappointed at how little security there was for Congress such that the incursion could have happened at all. I was upset at those who equated the protests in DC as the same as the invasion of the Capital building. The protestors are as responsible for the Capital invasion as BLM is for the maniacs who loot and burn in association with their riots: not at all.
I see two problems with the looting and rioting. The first is the obvious crime being committed. But the second is that the violent acts detract from the actual issue that the protests are about...we desperately need reform in how policing is done and how police are trained. Nobody should be afraid of the police because of who they are...and police should not be more afraid of a suspect because of the color of their skin. We can not see the full fruits and as a society we can not truly benefit from our minority populations if they are held back by real OR perceived oppression. So we need to strive to get rid of both real oppression when we see it...and perceived oppression. But threats from riots force people in to respective camps and prevents people from coming together (on a less violent level all the political correctness critical race theory crap does the same).
