We need to pause and not listen to our fears. And using past -- real or imagined -- events to justify present ones is poor thinking. It is like saying that no present crimes can be addressed till all past ones have been.
I believe that there has been uneven treatment of the riots. But to use that to defend the shocking and heinous events of Wednesday is a nest of logical fallicies. If you visit the Lounge you can find people who will defend their side at any and all costs. They will defend the indefensible. Some of us here are mirroring that activity on our side. It is transparent so let us not be like that. It dishonors the principles that are in there for us somewhere. Oppose wrong where we see it. Do not get caught defending the indefensible.
As one who voted for Trump -- and can defend that given the binary choice offered -- I use the same thinking and values to call for his removal now. But our discussion here needs to take a different tone.
So do not attack straw men. Try to listen and seek to state -- to your opposite's satisfaction -- the point he is making. If you can't do that you are not welcome here for awhile. At least by me and I probably agree with many of your foundational ideas if not your wilder constructions.
