🦅 At one early football game played on campus a buzzard flew over the spectators. Someone shouted “Look! Eagle!”. A student looked up and seeing no Eagle but a buzzard, shouted “Whar’s Eagle?!” just as Auburn scored to take the lead.

PPS it should be pretty easy to figure out if any faculty members at Auburn in the 1890s fought at the Battle of the Wilderness.
PPS although not impossible it is unlikely that Golden Eagles would have bred and hatched a brood in eastern Virginia. This mao shows the breeding ranges of Goldens in green.
