"My son got married last Sunday..."

Edited by Author at 9/14/2018 - 10:59 a.m.

And while I love my son and daughter in law, it was a strange wedding, and by strange I mean wierd, almost like it wasn't real, like 8th graders play acting.    In the picture below are my son with the pony tail, my daughter in law with the purple hair, and my daughter, who officiated (she went on line somewhere and got "ordained") in the gathering room of the Senior Center in Morris, Alabama.  And yes that's a Republic Alliance symbol on my daughter's shirt.  My son and daughter are Star Wars geeks, so they played the Imperial March as my son entered.  My daughter in law loves sharks, so they played the theme from Jaws as she came in.  My daughter quoted David Bowie (daughter in law has his imaged tattooed on her arm) and Obewan Kenobe in her remarks.  They wrote their own vows, which were mostly making fun of each other.  Food for the reception mostly came from the Walmart deli.  The decorations were actually nice, even if Star Wars and Shark themed, and they seemed perfectly content with how things went.  I paid for everything and the check wasn't even hard to write.

They have lived together for four years, which may have had something to do with the informality, but it is also just their personalities.  My son's "best man", a girl he has known since grade school, gave a little speech at the reception, the gist of which was that if he loved his wife as much as he does Auburn they'll be fine.  He responded by looking at his new wife and saying, in his best southern drawl, "I love you as much as Auburn, you're the Kick to my Six and the answer to my prayer in Jordan-Hare."

Two other things, first I saw my first male "romper" in the wild.  It looked something like this one and the guy chose to wear it to a wedding.

Finally, it was the first time I have seen my ex-wife (who raised the kids with limited influence but significant cash flow from me) in 15 years.  She looked 70 years old and was alone.  So the old saying that "the best revenge is living well" is true.  I actually almost felt sorry for her, but I couldn't quite do it.
