I would venture a guess and say the vast majority of barner fans have generational ties to the school and/or went to school there.Their grandparents or parents went there or even their great grandparents, so the gene pool for a barner gonna be more intelligent I would think. And I will be the first to admit that I dont know if I have ever meet an au fan who didnt strike me as having all their mental faculties. Granted, there are exceptions like WDE and Remus. 
Bama on the other hand has a huge fan base that has no direct connections to the university and they cut across diverse demographics and more often than not barely have a HS education. They never had families members that went there; lot of them high school educated blue collar types. Not he most polished people. So of course when you have a huge fan base , you are naturally going to have a large number of barely literate, perhaps slightly demented people .....the odds are in turn that you are going to have a large number of Harvey Updicks out there....uneducated, unstable, losers in life whose every second of enjoyment and self worth in life comes from Bama football. And if we should lose to a hated rival, that just makes their pitiful lives that much more unbearable and they strike out...against a girl friend, a wife, a brother , or a tree. Dont make it right of course but it is what it is.
I know as night follows day, that after a Bama IB loss, some of our fans are going to do stupid stupid #badword# and when I read about it I just shake my head. Assholes like Updick embarrasses me as a Bama alum and fan. But I guess even an Updick has the right to cheer for whichever team he likes....jyst wish it had been anyother program instead of ours.
