It’s Thanksgiving and Iron Bowl Week and I wanted say a few things to the Auburn Family. I attended Auburn from 1977-1981 and purchased season tickets the following season (1982). I’ve held those tickets since then. That coincided with Coach Dye coming to Auburn and I’ve been blessed to have lived in what I consider the Golden Age of Auburn Football. The 2012 season was the lowest one of those 37 seasons by far. It was horrible every week and the suffering of having to watch that was almost too much to bear. Auburn is just not supposed to perform that way on the football field.
As we head to play the Number 1 team in the nation and our Number 1 rival, we do so ranked at Number 4 in the BCS with a 10-1 record. A spot in the SECCG is at stake and a so is a National Championship. The turnaround by any measurement has been phenomenal and unprecedented. I want to thank Coach Gus, the entire staff and this team for showing tremendous grit and determination for what they have achieved thus far. I want all Auburn people to keep this in mind because regardless of the outcome of the Iron Bowl, this team deserves celebration. If we lose to Bama, sure I will be disappointed. But the only reason I have a chance to be disappointed is because of what has been achieved in this season. We have a chance (I actually think a very good chance) to beat Bama and I would not have said that only 13 weeks ago. Thirteen weeks ago I said we would have no chance to beat them. Just think of that. So regardless of the outcome of the game – Thank you to Gus, the staff and the players. Thanks for bringing Auburn football back to where we expect it to be.
Those attending the game Saturday have a real chance to thank this team in person. We can do that by cheering loudly and often. When the team is introduced, each one of these guys deserves a loud standing ovation. During the game, give your voice up and let that other team know that the 11 in Blue on the field have the undying support of 80,000+ behind them no matter the score or how the game is going. They’ve given us a tremendous season, let’s give them all we can Saturday!
BEAT BAMA! AND WAR DAMN EAGLE!
p.s. If you sell your tickets, sell them to Auburn fans.
