"Auburn's behavior does not set the climate for the rivalry. UAT does that"

Message Replied To ==========

should, and not saying they should, but should AU hire kirby smart

do you think that would be great thing for college football and the rivalry.

or would it propel the animoisty into greater hatred?

==============================

What AU has done for the last 30 years is to refuse to willingly play the role of the loser. AU has had the nerve to:

Play thier home games in their own stadium

Win games

Be glad when they win games

As long as AU agreed to lose 5 out of 6 games to UAT and let Bama set all the ground rules there was stasis. As soon as AU began to act like a real rival the Bama nation used their 70 % market share and leverage to strike back. We did not poison any Bama trees. We did not deface any Bama landmarks. The venom, hostility and off the field issues come from one place. A fan base that talks of class and produces Updyke as a celebrity and giggles at sexual assault / tea bag behavior will not change.

The only thing AU could do to lower the heat in this rivalry is agree to lose. Winning is the only thing they/we have done to change the tone.
