The only threatening drive by Auburn stalled at the 5 yard line. Bama was leading 35-14 at the time. The Tide gave up the underneath stuff but stiffened when Auburn reached the red zone.
At the start of the 4th qtr. and immediately before the pick six, Alabama held a 309-44 advantage in yards. Auburn was 3 of 15 on third down conversions. After converting the 4th & 1, Auburn went 20 yards backwards.
The fumble recovery and K.O. return were mere illusions. Auburn may have been 1 play away from making the score closer. But Auburn was never in the game.
