My wife never understood my passion for football..until now. She actually would make fun of me for having "virtual friends", would lose patience when I would frown when someone scheduled an event during a Gator game, etc.
But, as I went to watch my team's losing effort (or lack thereof) last weekend, I think it finally dawned on her. Life is full of happiness and sadness. It is in the totality of all of that through which we cand erive enjoyment. Despite what I am facing, I was able to forget everything and scream like a maniac as John Brantley through the ball out of bounds instead of to the open reciever downfield. And I was happy.
You can not live life only looking at the "serious" things. If you truly want to truly enjoy life to its fullest, you need to enjoy those things which are deemed "frivoulous" to others. Football, and other sports, shows us a commonality amongst us. Living in the South and being a man, there were many times that SEC football was the main commonality I had with some people. Discussions about football became the beginning of our relationships.
The outpouring of support I have had on the message boards has been very heartwarming. Several old friends of mine have since reconnected with me after reading my post on the VS where they have often lurked but never posted.
Never feel guilty about your passion for football..or for anything for that matter. This IS a part of real life. Enjoy it to the fullest. JMHO.
