295th Engineer Combat Battalion....so he and Shug were not on the same side of the org chart. I pulled out my father's History of the 19th Corp journal that was written in the months after the Germans surrendered. It is very interesting. The 295th had the second highest number of casualties, include 13 MIAs.
Has brief history of the 19th from the day they landed on the beaches, up through meeting the Russians in Berlin. Detailed description and cateloging if you will, of the bridges they repaired, land mines removed, pill boxes taken out etc. They destroyed almost 80,000 land mines.
Also a few descriptions of coming under enemy fire. They werent assigned to any one division.....moved around depending on where they were needed the most. The book also has many cool photos.
