I have two foot lookers that my father had in WWII and they are filled with his old Army stuff, including a book on his Corp of Engineers regiment , that was printed in 1946. I will take a look see tonight. It has a listing of all his comrades who died in combat and the list is extremely lengthy.
My father was eligible for two Purple Hearts but turned them down because his father would have ben notified. My uncle was killed in the south Pacific and my grandfather had a nervous breakdown over it and since official Army notifications were very brief , my father didnt want his dad to know about his wounds.
Oh, and our French allies gave my father a medal for meritorius service on French soil. Daddy received it back around 2002....only 50 something years late. Typical French.
