On why McClover signed with Auburn
“To be honest, Stanley didn’t get paid. Stanley became to Auburn because of me. He didn’t come to Auburn for money or nothing. He came because I was there. First he committed to Ohio State. I did my research and called him. I said ‘You need to check out their web site. They have you listed as a tight end.’ I guess the whole time they were lying to him and telling him he was going to play d-end. “He was like ‘OK, I’ve got something for them.’
“When he came for a visit to Auburn, he had a good time. He met the guys, we took him out and he said ‘Hey, man, I’m coming. He said I’m going to do it on signing day.’ He said ‘Everybody thinks I’m going to Ohio State. I’m going to fool everybody to Auburn and keep the Dillard tradition going.’ “
McClover signed with Auburn in February 2003. He was a partial qualifier and did not play until 2004, the only season he and Rosegreen played together. He left after the

“He kind of rubbed me wrong when he called me and left a message on my phone. He said ‘Can you call me back ASAP? I need you to do a big favor for me.’ I called him back and he was like ‘They are doing a story on my life. Would you be a part of it?’ I was like, ‘Yeah, OK. I’ll do that for you. I’ll tell them about how you grew up and all that stuff.’
“I hung up the phone and Coach Ken Scott called me. He was like ‘Junior, what’s going on with your boy? He said he just came to Dillard with HBO lying and trying to put us under the bus.’ I said ‘What? Hang on, Coach, and let me call you back.
“I called him back. I said ‘Look here man, I’m not being part of no lie. I’m an Auburn guy. I love Gene Chizik. That’s my man. Without him, I wouldn’t know what I know to this date. Gene Chizik and Coach Phillip Lolley and Coach Kevin Yoxall made me the man I am today. I told him I’m not being part of a lie. He was like ‘OK, OK.’ I said ‘Don’t use my name. If HBO uses my name, I’m going to sue them.’
“I called Coach Scott back. He told me how Stanley put them under the bus. He was talking good about Stanley, how he grew up and all that. He cut Coach Scott off. He said ‘Coach they don’t want to hear about that. They want to hear about when they kicked you out of the office and they gave me $20,000. Coach Scott said ‘What?’ That never happened.
"Then he made the statement he started the Dillard tradition. It started with Calvin Jackson, Otis Mounds, Frank Sanders, James Bostic, Brian Robinson. That’s when it started about the Dillard tradition. Then (Charles Dorsey) went there. I carried the tradition. Since I was keeping up the tradition, he wanted to come and finish it. For him to tell that big lie hurt me to my heart, because I know it didn’t happen.”
On hearing from HBO
“I heard the HBO man was looking for me. I called him up. I’m not going to hide from anybody, especially when I know it’s a lie. He was like ‘Junior, can you do me a favor and tell me Stanley’s story?’ He kept saying off the record, off the record, about 20 times. I got mad. I said ‘Look here. I’ll give you something off the damned record. Stanley is a storyteller.’ I said ‘You know what you call storytellers? Lying king. He’s a lying king. You can’t believe anything Stanley says.’
“I said ‘If you use my name I’m going to sue you. Don’t call me anymore. I’m not going to be a part of your story because all of it is a lie.’ He said Stanley didn’t get paid. I said ‘Look here, man, 2 plus 2 means 4, 2-pus2 doesn’t mean 20. I was an All-American. Ronnie Brown, Cadillac, Carlos Rogers, Karlos Dansby. We didn’t get paid.”
On why McClover was unhappy with Auburn
“Stanley is made because he blew his money. Stanley is broke right now. You can’t be mad at anybody but yourself. All the coaches told him what the general managers and scouts said. ‘You can’t play the run.’ … He blew $1.4 million. If you are going to the strip club three days out of the week, you are going to be broke.”
On Reddick’s accusations
“Troy Reddick, you cannot believe that kid. He’s what you call a fire starter. Anytime something doesn’t go his way, he wants to talk about blowing up the complex or something. Me and Jeris McIntyre called him and he was mad because he didn’t get a (graduate assistant) job. Why would Auburn give you a GA job when you were a head case? You weren’t coachable. He always wanted to fight the coaches. Me and the other players had to check him.”
On Ramsey and Gray
“I don’t know these other two clowns. You had your opportunity. Auburn gave you a full-ride scholarship to come out and earn your position.”
On whether some college football players get paid
“At the end of the day, all the fans should know that Auburn did nothing wrong. I don’t know about everybody else and don’t really care about anybody else. When you cut me open, I bleed blue and gray and one side and blue and orange on the other. I’m a Dillard High School and Auburn fan until I die. I know Auburn doesn’t do anything like that. That’s all that matter to me.
