"I Lost A Friend And Auburn Lost A Good Man This Past Week"
|
CONTEXT ADDED BY ADMIN: END OF CONTEXT Billy Ball died Monday. When I moved to West Palm in the early 1990's, Billy opened his home to me where he had a large home theater for watching Auburn football games. Billy led Auburn in rushing in 1947 with a whooping 157 yards for the season. Last I spoke with him he could still tell me the Auburn players who had gained more rushing yards in one game then he did all of the 1947 season. He was a team mate of the great Erk Russell.
I didn't realize he held the record for longest kick off return for Auburn until I read it in his obituary. Billy had been highly recruited by Duke, but no one picked him up at the train station in Durham. He said he felt at home at Auburn. Billy had been in ill health the past few years.
War Eagle forever Billy Ball.
