In the past few weeks, several people have asked me if I'm disgusted with Auburn. Am I worried about Auburn? Am I scared about what will happen? And this one, from a bammer fan, "Well, I bet you aren't so proud of Auburn now are you?" I had to shake my head at that one and walk away. I guess they just don't get it.
When our first daughter went to Auburn, I was a UT fan. I never went to UT, but my dad was a UT fan and had taught at the school. My husband is a UT fan. So, I rooted for UT. After the first game at Auburn, I was a changed woman. Was it because of the team? No. In fact, we lost that game. What made me love Auburn was AUBURN. I fell in love with the fans who said "War Eagle". I fell in love with the campus, and I fell in love with the school as I watched my daughters grow into a self confident and mature young ladies. Both girls have received top notch educations.
The years have flown by. This Saturday will be my youngest daughter's last home game. We'll go to the Tiger Walk and cheer on our team. We'll get into the stadium early and watch the eagle fly. We'll watch that amazing band enter the field...and I'm sure that I won't be able to make it through the national anthem again. I've never made it through without crying. Each time I hear the students voices singing, my throat closes and I'm overwhelmed with gratitude and love for Auburn.
All of this "mess" will pass. No matter what the outcome, Auburn is still Auburn and it always will be. I feel sorry for the people that don't get it.
Having said all of that.....I believe Cam Newton is innocent. And I believe with all of my heart that we are going to win tomorrow. And then??? Then we are going to go on and kick the #badword# out of Alabama.
War Eagle.
