His parents sat next to me last Sat. at LSU. I like to have beat his daddy to death when Cam took off on his long run....slapped him on the back several times I'm talking. A few minutes later when things had calmed down, I told him I was sorry that I almost beat him to death during the run. He said he was so excited also, that he never even felt it...great guy.
it opened my eyes a bit regarding Newton. I didn't know his family background, but it sounds like his father made the difficult choice that parents have to make in order to get a child back on track. He knew that Cam would be an exceptional athlete, a given, but this transcends athletics. His father's choice placed Cam on a narrow path with no margin for error. It must make his father proud to see how his son accepted the challenge and made the most of a 2nd chance. CM's discipline, maturity, and charisma are the byproduct of positive, tough-love parenting.
I'm as happy for Cam's parents as I am for what this young man brings to the Auburn family.
