You have people blaming the soldiers for their flippant attitude. You have some blaming the reporters. Well all of you are missing the damn point. War is meant to be waged in this manner. You kill the other #badword#s hopefully with as little damage all the way around . . . psychological included. The problem is not with the soldiers. The problem is not with the reporters. The problem is with the pricks in Washington that sent them all in to do the ridiculous, the destructive, the deadly work that was done. We flippantly send people around the world to do this everyday in a time when ALMOST NO COUNTRY ON EARTH IS AN EXISTENTIAL THREAT TO US!!! No one. We did not declare war on these people. The political class in this country are cowards and won't do that. So you get what we have here. If we faced down a real enemy and innocent people were killed it would be regretable . . . but we would chalk it up to war. The calculus changes when the pussies in Washington send our kids in to kill people in the name of police actions and indeterminant goals. Very few of the #badword#s up on Capital hill realize the duty they have to us. What you see in the video is not soldiers killing innocent people. What you see are the results of the assholes we have in Congress . . . not doing their job . . . not even having the most elemental notion of the power they were given . . . having abdicated their duty to cover their political asses. Further we can look in the mirror . . . very few people had a #badword# thing to say when Henry Hyde threw out this bit of political bull#badword# when Ron Paul asked for a Declaration of War:
"There are things in the Constitution that have been overtaken by events,
by time. Declaration of war is one of them. There are things no longer
relevant to a modern society. Why declare war if you don't have to? We are
saying to the President, use your judgment. So, to demand that we declare
war is to strengthen something to death. You have got a hammerlock on this
situation, and it is not called for. Inappropriate, anachronistic, it isn't done anymore."
You can look to this statement for the answer to why this happened or more importantly the prism through which we view it. We view war as a video game . . . not as the dreaded last resort. When we farm out war through political chicken#badword# to the "commander-in-chief" to go as he pleases . . . then the decision does not engage a nation but only the fancy of the political class. A political class that rarely ever put their lives on the line in any of these "wars" during their youth but are more than happy to kill your sons and daughters, or demand that they kill others. No . . . It is anachronistic to engage a country in war as a dedicated people, having fulfulled your duty to the Constitution the representatives of that nation invoked the only prescribed method to the deadly deed.
The video representing the apache, having removed the soldier so far from the actual act of killing, is a perfect analogy to how our representatives view their duty to the Constitution.
