My father's family are Bers. They trace their heritage to the Irish Bere Island. My father's people came to this country to escape persection and eventually settled in the great state of Mississippi. My father was a salesman and met a lovely lady of Finnish heritage on a business trip to Minnesota. They named me Elohssa, though my friends call me El. "Elohssa" is a variant of the Finnish word "elossa" which means to be alive. It was my mother's idea and to ridicule it is to ridicule her beautiful soul, may it rest in peace.
