When other teams began using that formation I thought it was stupid. Maybe I missed something. Did teams suddenly figure out how to block punts more often against the traditional formation? Did teams suddenly figure out how to break longer returns consistently against it? I think it was just some coach trying to be cute or fancy and everyone else jumped on board. I STILL think it is stupid and Auburn needs to go back to the traditional punt formation and wear white socks when they do.
I have neither the time, inclination or willingness to do so but it would be interesting if someone were to do a comparison of punting statistics out of the spread versus the traditional formation. Maybe there are top men that can be put on it. Then again they are probably busy working on new banners.
