early and mid 70's just as bad. Reagan didn't exactly walk into a great situation either. I'm not sure any of them thought that the best thing to do was immediately try to push though unpopular policy and run the deficit up billions above the last President after criticizing him 6 months earlier. Oh...and most didn't have his socialistic background to go along with his seemly socialistic comments and decisions.
Maybe I'm not remembering history right.
