because I do not think responsible people run for political office. There are only two reasons to desire political office 1) unbridled idealism that you know what is best for the country or 2) inherent corruption to where you want the power to take advantage of your fellow citizen for personal gain. Both are good reasons for disqualification for office, hence, the very desire for political office should be a disqualification for the same.

The best bet for the citizens of the nation to protect themselves from the excesses of government is divided government that argues with itself and accomplishes nothing until forced to. House seats are gerrymandered to the point that huge swings are not likely, and in the Senate, there are not enough at risk seats for the Republicans to have much chance to become a true opposition party.
