I think the range of views on the issue was well represented here, though some of the representers could work on brevity and self-restraint. I realize my own failings in this regard, a realization that informs my action plan to be discussed below.
After much reflection, I have decided that torture is antithetical to our value system and likely of questionable value in the gathering of reliable intelligence information. I will admit that there is a probably a time and a place for it in the heat of battle, but those occasions are rare.
So, torture is mostly bad. We should live our lives to rid the culture of it. But healing starts at home. So, in an attempt to eradicate torture from my little sphere, I have decided to stop reading the Lounge and most (but not all) of the political threads here.
Anxiously awaiting the debut of 519, I remain,
