This is the ranking of yards per game in conference play.The first question you must be dying to ask is: What the heck happened to Auburn? After leading the conference in offense in 2005, the Tigers looked to be set up for a nice little run. Quarterback Brandon Cox had two years of eligibility remaining, Kenny Irons had another year of eligbility at running back, and his backup Brad Lester had just finished his freshman season. The 2006 team also had four senior offensive linemen, three of them returning starters. However, the Tigers did lose their top three receivers from the 2005 team. Irons and Lester declined somewhat running the ball, but Cox actually improved his quarterback rating slightly in 2006. Then in 2007, the bottom fell out. Lester ceded his starting job to Ben Tate, and both posted decent numbers, but Cox turned in the worst performance of his career as a senior, throwing nearly as many interceptions (13) as he had in his previous two years as a starter (17). The Tigers got frustrated, hired Tony Franklin to run the spread, got frustrated again, canned the spread and Tony Franklin, fired one of the most successful head coaches in school history, and hired a proven failure as a head coach. Auburn fans, your team jumped the shark when Brandon Cox forgot how to play quarterback. I would not be as harsh on Brandon however. Hard to put the S. Florida loss on him and although its easy to put the MSU loss on him, its not fair to. The article also fails to mention how Irons was hurt in 06 for much of the season and the number of games Lester missed due to being screwed over on an academic issue And finally, here are the defensive rankings for each team. This is yards allowed per game in conference play.. drink of spilt milk that has already flowed under the bridge. Like it or not, Tuberville is gone. Chizik is the hand you're dealt. You can either continue to claim that AU sucks and won't ever win because Chizik had two bad years at a school where everyone else had bad years, too. I have never said that Auburn sucks. I have never said that Chiznick can't win. I just say he has to prove it. He has proven he can take a mediocre team and make it worse and that he calls that "success". Or, you can get on board the limo and see that they're doing some positive things. At least the competition thinks they are..."For the record, it's been reported that Alabama coaches were called in from their assignments and redirected to the same schools that Auburn assistants were visiting earlier in the week. Who's stupid now?"  I haven't been invited on the limo. When I am I will say positive things, if I see positive things. And I thought I was being positive about the limo in my above poast.  Or least not negative. If saying "let's wait to signing day and wait for results" is negative, then I am negative. I do think that the worry, nay panic, that many felt about Saban's recruiting was a bad bad thing. With the exception of Julio Jones none of Saban's #1 class really played a huge part in the 10 wins they had (big exception, However, look Julio to bring Fulmer cup glory to Bama soon, its usually not the nicest of people who are key witnesses in murder trials) It is also troubling that the worry/ panic/whatever over Saban's recruiting is accompanied by the re-involvement of the last football coach to get us on probation. I think Coach Dye is one of the best coaches Auburn had, a good argument can be made he was the best, but on the other hand he is one of the worst ex-head coaches we've had. If he had supported Bowden in 96 instead of being pissed about Terry firing Wayne Hall (a mistake in my mind) then Terry may have been able to weather the storm. Same thing with Tubs, Dye had the long knives out for him after Arkansas 02, which if what I am told is true, (and I believe it is) it was not so much the win/losses of Tubs as it was Tubs not letting Stacy Danley funnel pro prospects to Pat Dye, Jr. So in Dye's eyes Tubs had to go. Anyway, I digress: back to Saban. We had a guy who had a winning record against Saban. Still does. He doesn't deserve the type of panic that some Auburn folks have gotten themselves into. Here's a list of coaches not named Bryant who have won SEC championships at two different schools: Here's a list of all coaches, regardless of last name, who have won MNC at two schools: Saban is a very good coach. But he's not all that. The 1-15 Dolphins are more his doing than Cam Cameron's (though Cam is a retard in his own right). Oh and FTR: I didn't want Dye when we hired him, I wanted Billy Atkins, Dan Reeves, Bobby Bowden or Vince Dooley. And I didn't want Tubs at all. Can't remember who I wanted, but it wasn't him. And I am glad we got both of them. So I hope I am wrong about Chiznit. And I probably will be. ... I'm not sure why I'm writing this, because there's really no benefit to discussing it anymore, but I think Tommy T was a good coach and a good recruiter. I think he earned the right to more time. But, I'm not the AD (nor, am I sure who is). I, and many others, think Tommy was a great coach, but unwisely stubborn in the management of his staff - and that's why he isn't there anymore. It's hard to argue that he hasn't made bonehead move after bonehead move on the offensive side of the ball. It's hard to argue that the offense didn't cost AU many victories during the Tuberville era. Tommy T's defenses were almost always good enough to win, but the offensive management cost many a game. The stats above belie your last paragraph.
