It may have been there that I learned that some people are actually trustworthy and willing to make a good living working hard and helping their fellow citizens; that people can gain a sense of personal satisfaction making their customers happy, and then are financially rewarded as a result.
I don't think I was really exposed to the evils of greedy hogs until much later - perhaps when I saw some of the soccer parents in my elementary school years. I do recognize that quality when I see and hear the likes of Barney Frank and Nancy Pelosi. I think I'd choose not to follow any inititiative forwarded by goons like that.
The one thing I think that was drilled into me during my formative years, thankfully, is that communism and complete government dependency didn't work in those days (the 60's) and that hasn't changed. It hasn't worked for centuries, and won't work for centuries. The individual needs to be accountable and responsible for him/herself. That's the best way for a self satisfying life and a growing vibrant culture. I'm all for government roles in law enforcement, national defense, emergency response, infrastructure, helping the truly needy, and many other roles. But in these days in particular we are in jeopardy of expecting the government to do all and be all. Hell we already are doing that via the bailouts. That's a very dangerous place to be. In the end it will be our ruin.
