"We lost another one from the Greatest Generation…"

CONTEXT ADDED BY ADMIN:
END OF CONTEXT

Roy C. Gwin

January 4, 1922 – April 6, 2009

Everyone knew him as Uncle Roy. I was always proud because he really was my uncle; he was married to my mother’s sister for 67 years. He was 87 years old when he left this world today. He was a child during the great depression and was a member of the U.S. Army’s 561st Field Artillery Battalion in WWII. He fought in France, Belgium, and Germany, including having fought at Bastone in the Battle of the Bulge. He lost one brother in combat during WWII.

Uncle Roy and Aunt Gladys had no children and have lived across the street from my parents for over 40 years. They were like second parents to my sisters and me. I was with Uncle Roy when I killed my first deer… he was more of a sportsman that my dad so when I wanted to go hunting and fishing, it was always with Uncle Roy. The world is a sad place for me today. We lost a great patriot and a great man.
