I've said for years that the problem in the Middle East is that they don't have college football.
So, with no college football, they sit around thinking and talking about politics all the time, with predictable results........
Happens in some of those Latin American countries, too.
Of course, that same sort of dynamic could occur if - say - your team wasn't doing well in an election year in which your candidate lost.
It wouldn't happen in the SEC - one of those other conferences, though.
And, it should be worth noting that soccer has proved a supreme failure as an ameliorating agent.......
