But it shows there is less than there was. Black people did not elect Obama -- white people did. When the stats are all in they are going to show that the surge in black people voting was not all that large relatively speaking. So white America chose a black man as POTUS. That -- as YT says -- is pretty remarkable and a good thing regardless of political affiliation. I heard Mary Frances Berry last night on NPR make some powerful and astounding claims re/ this and was gratified to hear her name Condi Rice and Clarence Thomas among the black leaders who have been accepted and looked up to by americans.
And the institutional racism that was official and unofficial is doing its death rattle in the US. It still thrives in Europe and lots of places in the world but there is less of it here than anywhere -- including Africa.
With apologies to Mr Churchill -- maybe it is the beginning of the end.

There is no character, howsoever good and fine, but it can be destroyed by ridicule, howsoever poor and witless. Observe the ass, for instance: his character is about perfect, he is the choicest spirit among all the humbler animals, yet see what ridicule has brought him to. Instead of feeling complimented when we are called an ass, we are left in doubt.
