Your point is somewhat valid, but this: "there was more coverage about palin's wardrobe than ayers writing obamas book." You're actually complaining that the media covered more facts than fiction????
Don't blame the media for blowing this election for the Republicans. They did not need the media's help. The blame lies primarily with George W. Bush.
Obama's lack of a track record was his most glaring weakness....or maybe his most admirable trait, depending upon how you look at it. When Obama's name was first brandied about almost 2 years ago, I was thinking it was way too early to form an opinoin about him, much less for him to actually run. As the election cycle moved forward, I figured his inexperience would do him in.
But then McCain made a critical errore and picked Palin. See, McCain had 2 things in his favor in this election: 1) His image with respect to defense and terrorism; and 2) Obama's lack of experience. Well, by picking Palin has his Veep, he lost the ability to attack Obama on point #2. You and I and the pundits could complain that Obama lacked experience, but McCain could not, because by picking Palin and promoting her as ready to be President, he implicitly admitted that experience was not important.
As for point #1, No one really cared about that after the economic crisis hit. The election was effectively over when the market crashed. While I don't think Obama and McCain differ much at all on how to react to the current crisis, Obama is perceived as more in control, and McCain is seen as part of the problem, not the solution. When the economy tanks, the incumbent party is in trouble.
So, it was Bush, Palin, and the economy, stupid. None of those were media creations.
