and now that I'm a PFC (proud #badword#ing civilian - for those that need clarification), I prefer to use the civilian method of hand over the heart and believe that only in uniform should you use a military salute. When we destroy the small nuances of which the building blocks of our society is composed, we alter that society in ways that have consequences. I believe that this engenders a more militaristic approach to our nation that is not needed. Vets have many ways of showing that they are vets without this.
