"The problem goes beyond those issues"

CONTEXT ADDED BY ADMIN:
END OF CONTEXT

I can understand the need for laws regarding custody, common ownership of property etc. The problem comes in when groups use the establishment clause to state that ALL persons must honor such unions as equal to marriage.

That becomes a huge sticking point in the debate because it is what brings about the lawsuits against religious affiliated groups like Catholic Charities, the Knights of Columbus for not providing services contrary to the principles of their religious beliefs. It is a problem when it is used against private individuals (as in private companies and benefits etc). It becomes a method of thought control disguised as a protection of "rights". We can say that we exclude churches, but religious faith extends far beyond Sunday Mass ans services.

As the above HAVE already occurred, I must line up as opposed to civil unions and marraige, until such a time as the establishment clause is not used to bludgeon private citizens into submission on social issues.
