The Legend of War Eagle:

Back in the day, like the 1500's or something, there was an Indian tribe living in Opelika. (small city near Auburn) The Indian Chief was named War Eagle, a surprisingly typical name among Indian Chiefs back then. BUT, only one War Eagle is still remembered to this day.

War Eagle would catch a bus into Auburn to grab some beer or catch a game occasionally, and when people saw him they said "Hey, War Eagle! Good to see you, man! Come by the apartment later, we're having a party... hey, did your daughters come with you this time?"

War Eagle would laugh and smile sorta funny (he knew his girls were hot) then he'd want to hear the latest bama joke, or break out the Peace Pipe, and everyone would just chill and hang out and order some pizza or sushi-rolls. It was great!

War Eagle loved Auburn, so much so that when it came time to visit his final resting grounds, his last request was to have all the people in Auburn say his name one last time. It was supposed to be like they did on Cheers when everyone screamed "NORM!" but it was much bigger than that to the citizens of Auburn, 'cause War Eagle was like the chillest dude around.

Police estimated 100,000 mourners attended War Eagle's ceremony, and the name War Eagle was echoed across the Plains, followed by a short dance routine from the Tigerettes dedicated to the life of Chief War Eagle. Everyone went back to Toomers after that, and a guy I knew in High School (his nick-name was Tiger if you can believe that) said "we should always remember the Spirit of War Eagle, that guy was AUsome".

Thats when I said "hey, let's say his name before all of our football games, sorta like a tribute to good people and great friendships. We could even walk to the grave-site a few hours before every home game and invite all the players to come along too". But, Tiger (from High School) said "Screw that. I'll be too drunk to walk that far. Let's tell the players that we buried War Eagle over by the stadium, and if they'll walk by he'll give them some magic "Indian voo-doo" to help them win". (They're called horse steroids now, just for the record) "We can stand by the road and say hi and ask for autographs and stuff".

Just my luck, everyone loved his idea and decided to call it "Tiger Walk" (since that was his nickname) but no one remembers that I was the one who suggested screaming "Warrrrrrrrr Eagle! before every game. Damn frat brothers. In fact, it used to be just "Warrrrr Eagle!" but after the first time everyone said it, I stood up and said "HEY! That was MY idea." So now, after screaming Warrrrrr Eagle! everyone turns around and looks at me and says "HEY!" Bunch of smartasses.

It pissed me off, so I threw my pet hawk at them, but the bird just flew around the field a few times and landed on the AU logo. You can see where this is going so I'll skip the details of how the Eagle Flight was born. It all ties in, trust me.

So anyway, whenever you hear someone say War Eagle! it's a sign of friendship among the great people who love Auburn, to those that treat people with proper respect, and to those who follow War Eagle's advice: Keep an eye on your daughters when you come to Auburn.

War Eagle my Friend!
