minute, it never got bright enough to be"twilight". Well anyway during my student years at Auburn I remember watching our alumni sit on their hands while our team, inept as they most times were, played their hearts out for Auburn. I was reminiscing today with a fellow alum that finished in '82 and the one constant that we both remember and uphold is that we are Auburn Tigers win or lose. There is no mothball smell on my school colors, nor will there ever be. The navy blue and burnt orange are bone deep with both of us and I believe with the Auburn fans that participate on this board. Perhaps we are better off without the "band wagoneers" that care only about winning. Maybe that is the bright spot in this season.

My pride in Auburn comes from my heart. Sure I want to win and these past two games were excruciatingly painful, mostly because they were very winnable games, but never once did losing cause me to question my allegiance to Auburn anymore than enduring the painful years of the late 80's. On the subject of booing, the only way I would ever boo an Auburn athlete is if they did something to bring shame on my university. Would I boo Eric Ramsey? Absolutely! At the top of my lungs because what he did to my school was dishonest and despicable. He took advantage of Coach Dye and his desire to take care of his boys. Would I boo Brandon Cox or Tommy Trott or any other member of the team? Never. Those guys put themselves on the line in a way that I never have. I took no risk for my health while I was in the band, well maybe at Bobby Dodd stadium ;-).

As far as football and strategy that is fair game for discussion. I personally would've enjoyed seeing what Kodi Burns could've done in the last four plays, but we'll never know. One thing I do appreciate is the maturity that Brandon Cox has shown during his personal adversity. I hope if one day the barbs and boos come towards my son who plays high school sports like they have Brandon, that they handle it with the class Brandon has shown. Do I think Brandon has played well? No, and probably neither does he.  I refuse to boo him as long as he wears blue and orange and what's more, I don't care how much money you pay for your tickets or how much money you donate to the Auburn fund, the athletic department or Bobby Lowder, I defy any argument that uses donations as an excuse to boo our team.

Thanks to all of you that have posted reminders from Jim Fyffe and your childhood that reminds us that it is truly special to be a part of the Auburn family. And as I told my daughter who is unable to attend Auburn thanks to ungodly out of state tuition, it doesn't matter where you go to school if Auburn is in your heart.
