"I agree. It is the national perception of Auburn "

and that perception is flawed.  33-5 with most of their defense back and a senior starting QB yet they're currently ranked 4th best of SEC teams and are closer to being out of the top 15 than in the top ten.  Their margin of error is very small because of the type of game they play - a loss is devastating to their national chances.  Auburn wins games with solid defense, sound line play and judicious passing.  The same way UF did throughout last year.  What was different for us is that we benefited from the publicity echo of the Spurrier years making us a sexy name school, the Meyer carry over from Utah - undefeated season, different and exciting offense, new boy wonder coach - the realization in hindsight of the obvious error in 04 and the injustice done AU and the SEC, and the lobbying by UF itself thus not leaving it solely in the hands of the mediots who would have surely gotten their beloved OSU/Michigan rematch had Meyer and Machen not spoken up - loudly.

I think UF's success in the title game has bought the SEC some continued good will from voters that will likely help if another SEC team is in the hunt come December.  But another showing like UT had vs. Cal or a bowl season where we go 2-5 against the other conferences and that good will will be swept away in a tidalwave of Pac Ten/Big Ten love from the ESPiN/ABC media machine.
