"I just came from the Midwest after living up there"

for the past two years.  I've also lived in California and Arizona and Fayetteville, Arkansas so that's 2 SEC locations and 2 PAC 10 locations and 1 Big 10 location-I have a basis for comparison.  Unlike PAC 10 fans, Big 10 fans actually do not only show up for the kickoff, but they show up ahead of time for tailgating.  That said, they don't live for college football 24/7 and talk about it 365 days a year like people in the South do.  A "mixed marriage" up there has something to do with ethnicity rather than school affiliation.  They are a "fan" of their school.  They do not self identify as a Vol/Gator/Corndog/Bulldawg/Tiger-Plainsman-War Eagle/Bammer.  Once they get into the stadium, they sit on their hands-they don't scream their lungs out until they have no voice for several days after the game trying their damndest to coordinate their efforts with their Defensive Coordinator's blitz calls.

I'll give them that they're better fans than the PAC 10 folks and I'm sure they're better than the Big Least and ACC fans-and maybe even Big 12 fans (just guessing-I don't know what they're like) but......they're not even in the same universe as SEC fans when it comes to passion for their schools and the games.
