I am a liberal that respects and will defend the 2nd Amendment. I have a respect for the entire Constitution. I am an attorney who has studied how amazing our Constitution is and has been since the day it was written.
Having said that, i do not for a minute believe that any of the rights ennumerated in the Bill of Rights are limitless. I suspect no one believes that. The NRA may assert that the 2nd Amendment provides limitless rights for anyone to own any kind of firearm any time they want, but we have all seen the results of that for a long time now.
We all know the example of how shouting "Fire!" in a crowded theater is not protected speech. Similar reasonable restraints could be imposed on gun ownership. I do not intend to get into a discussion of "where do you draw the line". I simply point out that one can support a Constitutional right even while recognizing the necessity for reasonable limitations on such rights in the interest of the public at large.
