Well, I will go ahead and make my attempt to put into words my thoughts on Jeremy and what has happened. I first met him around ten years ago through my brother-in-law who had went to high school with him. We immediately started talking about LSU sports and a friendship was made. I remember it like it was yesterday when he asked if I ever visited any of the LSU message boards. I said no and we hopped on a computer immediately so he could show me the TigerRoar site.
Jeremy was present at quite a few family functions and he always made any gathering more interesting. Some of the uptight females that were around would get annoyed at times with his sarcastic humor, but for the rest of us he kept us laughing. Those of you who have met him probably understand what I mean.
Him and I would hook up sometimes and drive up for LSU functions or go catch a game at the bar. We might would go 2 or 3 months without talking if it was not football season, but I could always count on getting emails or a phone call from him if anything important happened regarding LSU. If I was heading downtown, I of course would make it a point to go see him where he was bartending to say hi and get a drink that was always way too big and full of way too much crown royal.
A few of my favorite Jeremy memories-
· During the SEC championship game against Georgia during the 2003 game I had invited him over to watch the game and my wife ended up kicking us out of the house because he was yelling to loud at every good LSU play and it was waking our baby. We heade to the local sports bar and yelled and screamed with LSU fans like crazy due to the butt whipping that was taking place.
· During the national championship game that year we had a party at the house and set up a tv outside. As you can imagine Jeremy was beyond crazy fired up for the game and he was screaming so loud that I had neighbor who lived three blocks away tell me he heard him.
· My wife likes to tell about her first encounter with him before I met him. Her and her mom and dad (I think it was all 3) had come back home from somewhere and were sitting in the living room talking. Jeremy had been in the back with the other guys and I guess he said he was hungry and was told to go fix a plate as there were plenty of leftovers. He came to the kitchen and did not speak to anyone, just fixed a plate and started eating by himself at the table. They are looking at each other trying to figure out who he was and he proceeds to go fix a second plate of food. Finishes that and digs out some dessert and sits back down. After finishing he politely washed his plate off then walked back down the hall without saying a word. They finally had to go ask who he was. They always laughed at him about that.
Jeremy was a very good athlete. I played on a softball team with him once and was very much impressed with how fast and strong he was. Going to the gym was probably his other big passion besides LSU and the Saints. Jeremy always had good looking girlfriends. He used to make me jealous at how hot some of these women were he would bring around.
I did not really know his family, but one of the few occasions I heard him say any “sensitive” things was when talking about his sisters. He seemed to have cared about them a lot as I remember when they were younger he was so worried about guys chasing them when they got older.
I last saw him the night the Saints played at Dallas on December 10th. We went downtown to watch the game with other Saints fans at Gordon Birsch. It was nuts and my hands were hurting from high fiving Jeremy so much. He called me the day of the LSU-Notre Dame game to see where I was and invite me to where he was bartending for a drink. Wish I would have went.
I honestly can’t say that I knew anything was bothering him. He always seemed to be a little angry inside, but it was nothing he ever let get him down about. He seemed his normal self and I even got one of his usual “LSU update” emails this past Thursday the 11th. I had noticed that he was staying home a lot more and not partying much over the last 6 months or so, but I didn’t think much of it.
Jeremy’s favorite drink lately was Patron Silver Tequilla. If you are a drinker and find yourself in a mood to do a shot anytime soon, down a Patron for Jeremy.
As his sister noted in the email she sent out he, is sorry about this but wanted to find peace. I am sure he has found it in heaven and was tackling some poor guys up there last night while watching down on the Saints game.
