Nick Saban was offered the University of Alabama head coaching job this week, with the school trying to lure the Dolphins coach by offering a pay hike and a signing bonus for leaving Miami.
Saban has declined the offer and Thursday morning told his players he is not leaving. The coach also told owner Wayne Huizenga on Sunday he was not interested in Alabama.
After practice, he confirmed that Alabama had approached his agent, Jimmy Sexton, who thanks but no thanks. Saban also said he never interviewed or spoke directly with Alabama officials.
The preliminary offer from Alabama athletic director Mal Moore included a $5 million a year salary for five years and a signing bonus that ranged from $5 million to $7 million.
Saban signed a five-year contract with the Dolphins in January 2005 that averages $4.5 million per year.
