fans, many of which are on this board... the boosters, alums, and admin have heard your cow calls (pun intended) and have screwed Alabama football for the next 5 years.
Why? Saban isn't going to leave the Fins this year, maybe next but not now. In offering Saban and letting the word get out about doing so, not only Mike Shula, but Alabama football became a lame duck. I repeat SABAN isn't coming! And with him being offered but not coming it lets every coordinator worth hiring to help this staff remove all doubt that Mike Shula has one more year and thats it. So now Alabama gets to hire some wide receiver coach from Valdosta St to be its offensive coordinator, the offensive line coach from Delaware, and the special teams coach from Itwamba Community college... assuming the administration could do that well under the circumstances it just put itself in. No coordinator with any sense is going move pick up, leave a job, move his family to come to Alabama, no matter what a great football history she has and no matter what money is put on the table, only to be unemployed in a year.
So what you got was no new head coach, and now what staff changes were to be made, if they are made will be no better than what we already have.
Oh, and lets not forget recruiting! What recruit wants to come to a football program with a head coach that is on his way out the door? Imagine you are a high school kid and the head coach of a prominant football program comes in your house to talk recruiting with you. How seriously are you going to take him when he says "we are a big family"... "we are trying to build a national championship team and I want you to be a part of it". We will be extremely lucky to keep the recruits we have now committed... I don't think we will see much more such as the likes of Gibson, Baily, McNeil etc. And you can cancel out any chance of a decent class in 2007/2008.
I sincerely hope Mike Shula defeats the odds against him next year which include basically the same offensive line we had this year (I sure hope some of the kids from last years class push for starting jobs), and instead of reloading on defense as we did this year, totally rebuilding the defense with Soph and RS Fresh. Basically he will have the same team with a harder schedule (thank goodness most of it is at home). Then I hope he gets an extension through 2025 with a 5 trillion dollar buy out so he can have the administration by the balls just like tubs does now.
Thank you again screamers, cryers, fair weather, bandwagon, barner types on this board and among all the Bama faithful. You have sent Alabama into the depths it was just a few years ago without the NCAA even having a hand in it this time. Fulmer must be laughing his fat azz off. Everyone one of you deserve this self inflicted wound caused by impatience, disloyalty and an overall shcitty attitude toward our players and staff.
