...Tommy Tuberville has acheived an accomplishment that few other coaches in AU/UAT history have ever performed before. Putting aside the fact that Tuberville has won as many SEC Championships as Shug Jordan, the beloved namesake of Auburn's Stadium, Tuberville is in my opinion the best coach in Auburn history.
Yes, Pat Dye, with his upmost determination, has won enough SEC hardware to be considered the best Auburn coach in Auburn history. Dye likewise had his cleats on the Adam's apple of Alabama coaches. But whether Bear Bryant or Ray Perkins, Dye never was able to apply to the killing blow. Dominance over Bill Curry aside, Dye was never able to apply the killing the blow to Alabama's coaches. Gene Stallings stands as my case in point.
Tuberville, for all his faults, has performed the hat-trick. Three Alabama Coaches later, Tommy Tuberille alone has hoisted his throat on the Alabama Coach's throat and gone for the thrust and the kill. Auburn has been hurt time and time again by four year recruiting predictions, but Tuberville alone has won the war of words between the most competitive rivalries in the SEC.
Tuberville, thank you for five thumbs up. Perhaps, the Gods willing, Auburn fans may see big toes counted in the future.
