"OMG, I'm just now recovering..."

I made the DDS kids get flu shots yesterday.  Called the mother-in-law just before she was picking them up from after school art class at 4:30, told her to bring them to my office, but not to tell them why.

So, I get a good grip on each of them and announce that we're going next door (to my uncle, the MD's office) to get flu vaccinations.  Well, let me tell you, you aren't going to fool a 9yo with that vaccination BS--she screamed, "A SHOT! A SHOT!" and it was like watching one of those calf-roping teams trying to keep a hold of that calf, only there was one of me and two of them.

Uncle's nurse, Martha Belle, who has been with him since I was a kid, locking myself in bathroom's to get out of getting shots, heard us coming and held the door open for me, then closed it quickly behind me.  Uncle is a chicken, he's in his office and won't come out.  I could have set the building on fire, and as long as my kids were screaming, he would have stayed holed up in there surfing the internet.

I had one pinned down in a chair, and was holding the other with her butt stuck out for my aunt (the other nurse) to stick her, when I found out it has to go in the arm.  Note to self:  on shot day, send the kids to school in short sleeve shirts, even if it's 40 degrees and raining.  So I had to get her shirt sleeve up.  Bout then, the 9yo decided to make a run for it, so I've got the door blocked with my body while I'm holding the 6yo with both arms and a leg.

Screaming?  Blood-curdling would be the appropriate descriptor.  My office staff could hear them through 20 feet and two solid wood doors.

This morning LilDDS (the 9yo) told me that she didn't really think the shot hurt that bad, she was just screaming too loud to tell for sure.

Martha Belle allowed that they should probably do that once every couple of weeks, just to remind them why they are glad they don't see many children.

I'll try being nicer if you'll try being smarter.
