This is the same guy who was a genius when he had guys like
Lavalais, Spears, Williams along the defensive front. We're soft in the middle
right now, because we don't have any standout performers. What we've got are
solid contributors and talented but inexperienced guys. I like Josh
Thompson. He is probably the toughest MF on the team, but he is just too small
to be the physical presence we need in the middle. Tez and Pat Sims have
been busts thus far, and while Marks is an extremely gifted athlete he’s not
been playing football very long. Not the kind of guy who is going to be
starting on most top notch defenses. I agree with you, things look better for
next year when guys like Ricks and Smith will be plugging holes in the middle.
Ricks looked pretty impressive before he got “hurt”. With the kind of
linebakers we have, we really need some size in the interior line to eat up
some blocks so the linebackers have room to road around and plug up holes.
Muschamp has shown he knows how to motivate and scheme (see LSU and UF 2nd
half). The jury is still out on the guy, give him some time. I think some
people need to come to grips with reality. Our defense was over rated to begin
with. They are a solid unit, and can play spectacularly well at times. But
given the youth, you should expect some inconsistency. Niether bammer nor UGA
scare me on offense. Both games are very winnable. And if we win out, I better not hear any complaining about being 11-1, or I'll meet you at the nearest doubletree, hand you a map, mirror, and flashlight, and kick you in the pants.
