The one thing that Paul does that I don't too much care for is the way he criticizes the teams. More specifically, not so much the "teams", but the individuals. Now, a head coach making in excess of $1M/year can be expected to take his fair share of criticism. But, there is no difference in his berrating of the coaches or players. He makes fun of student athlete's hair, weight, appearance, speech, lack of abilities, etc. If they were professional athletes, that would be a different story. But these guys are "amateurs" (say what you want) and Paul doen't think twice about tearing into any of them. It is this virtue of Paul's that will forever keep him a seedy bottom feeder in my book. Yes, he was a QB for UT for a while (never saw the playing field). But that does not give him free authority to call out any player at will and harp on their imperfections.
That aside, he knows where his bread is buttered--and he caters to that genre. I feel that he is much more intelligent than most of us realize. Like it's been said, he makes his living of the AU-UA rivalry--and any others on the fringes. He lives on the negative. He instigates arguments to create callers. Scripted? Who knows? Who CARES? You just need to remember that his show is entertainment rather than sports reporting/journalism.
