Auburn football has a long standing proclivity dating back to at least 1950 (with exceptions in the late 70's and again in the late 80's) to tank it when predicted by the pundits to do well. The most recent example is 2003, but much more egregious examples can be found (in order of egregiousness) in 1950, 1980, 1975, 1998, 1973, 1991, 1965, 1962, 1966, 1985, and 1995. Conversely, when pundits have picked Auburn to do poorly, Auburn has responded well, the most recent example being 2004, but the most famous being 1972 and also 2000, 2002, 1997, 1993, and 1986. Maybe 1963 and 1982, too. Given this history, the Auburn nation was nervous when Auburn was ranked highly in the 2003 preseason polls---and our fears proved correct. Therefore, in 2004, when Auburn went on a tear, the Official Board Policy ("OBP") of Wayne's was "reverse mojo" ---- saying Auburn sucks in order to reverse the possiblity of someone in the media praising Auburn. The OBP continued relatively unchanged through the 2005 season (with a brief flirtation with hubris toward the end of that 2005 campaign. We got sack happy.) However, reverse mojo got boring, and the phrase "suxes" is inherently stupid. Accordingly, we changed the OBP to "AUBURN WILL CRUSH ALL THAT STAND IN HER WAY (AND ESPECIALLY OLE MISS-- GOOD GAWD ALMIGHTY THAT'S GOING TO BE AN ASS KICKING)." This was in good faith and good fun. Unfortunately, we did not realize that the self -evident nature of this truth would prove so offensive to others on the mudduck, who like Auburn to be the country cousin, good for FSU buyout and former coaches on the payroll jokes (and for its biology alums to upgrade the script and prevent server crashes), but beyond that mere space filler. After much deliberation, we have decided that those taking offense have significant issues of hyper-sensitivity. If Mike Shula were around, we are sure he would offer them a Good Humor Bar. But we have neither the resources nor the expertise to deal adequately with what is, basically, a psychological problem. So, we advise just getting used to it. Thank you for your support.
