"Here you go..."

Somebody on one of these bulletin boards learned that I was a lobbyist for big oil. They sarcastically said that I should be ashamed to be doing the political dirty work for “the man”. This was my reply (or something similar to this): I’m proud to say I represent “the man”. “The man” works long hours and perseveres, despite the environmental idiots who want to regulate him out of business in the name of some minnow or frog no one has ever heard of or seen. “The man” keeps on trying despite the trial lawyers who want to sue him out of business. “The man” keeps working hard despite the liberals and government bureaucrats who want to tax him out of business and transfer the money HE earned to some social program for able-bodied people who have never earned anything and deserve nothing. “The man” has never fallen into a government-sponsored safety net of any kind, and never wants to. I represent “the man” who places his hard-earned capital at risk in the hopes of making a profit. In doing so, “the man” creates jobs so that other people can have a three-bedroom home with two cars in the garage. “The man” pays a decent wage so that young people can have a life better than he had growing up. “The man” loves his wife and kids and goes to church on Sunday. “The man” volunteers at the local soup kitchen and coaches little league baseball. “The man” shows up at the PTA meetings and buys candy from the kids who ring his doorbell raising money for the band field trip or the girl scouts. “The man” doesn’t do drugs, doesn’t cheat on his wife, doesn’t beat his kids, and doesn’t neglect them, either. Yes, I represent “the man.” I do my best to protect him from the trial lawyers, the liberal tax takers and government bureaucrats, and the overzealous regulators. I’m proud to work for “the man”.
