while miami, fsu, west virginia etc do... the announcers are pressed to make predictions about who will play for the mnc and they want to be right. they are not making statements about who has the best team. the sec is just too brutal right now to realistically assume a team will come out of it in the mnc race. if we have an undefeated sec team or two around week 8 or so they'll likely be getting serious mnc talk.
