"About what I expected from you...."

(EDITED BY AUTHOR: 4/27/2006 - 9:31 a.m.) here's the deal....
1. I didn't refer to Hurt as a "homer" in this thread, someone else did. My point, however, remains valid. As the sports editor for the Tuscaloosa newspaper, Cecil is held to a higher standrad pursuant to homerism than any beat writer is, including Marshall. That's the way journalism works...whether you like it or not.
2. Marshall is paid to cover Auburn sports and only Auburn sports. He is a full-time beat writer, who spends as much time living out of suitcases in Auburn as he does living in Hunstville, is "permitted" a degree of homerism by his peers and readers...as are beat writers for spuat who work for Hunstville & other state newspapers.
3. Kirk McNair is also permitted a degree of homerism by the nature of his job. However, he is well known for going over the edge and providing insults and degrading comments to other teams, players, and coaches when none of that is required to support his "homer" view of spuat athletics. Witness this unprofessional but typical contribution from Kirk just this week when discussing the loss of the two Mobile prospects to out of state teams in his spuatmag.com diatribe:
"There are rare times when Bama will be at a disadvantage. Although one can get any of a number of valuable degrees at The Capstone, if a player has a lifelong interest in something like sheep husbandry, then the Tide will probably lose him to one of the Ag schools." ~ Kirk McNair, spuatmag.com, April 24, 2006
You'll have to look long and hard to find such a degrading (or sarcastic) statement about other schools from Mr. Marshall. . .but you'll find them often and without difficulty from Mr. McNair.
Promoting a team you cover for a living is one thing....McNair's approach to homerism is another. . .
There is a discernible, demonstrable, documented difference. Just look it up.
