Don't put us on the same moral plane with these people. We are not. We don't kidnap civilians and cut off their heads with rusty knifes while glorifying and videotaping it. You may think we are no better than them, I don't know, though your post would lead me to believe you have assigned some sort of moral equivalency to our actions and theirs. Although I do question the group we have in office now, including both sides of the aisle in congress, I haven't yet become an America hater of the Al-Jezzera wing of the democrat party.
Its an incredibly emotional issue, understandably on both sides. I do see some similarities, though. The United States has launched (off the top of my head...at least 4?) unannounced missile attacks in both the Clinton and Bush regimes. Clinton hit an aspirin factory, Bush two weeks ago hit...whatever it was, it wasn't the "target". If you were in a third world nation and you were teetering between aligning yourself with extremists who looked like you and a white man on the other side of the nation who...btw, just launched a missle attack the next villiage over which killed your uncle in law...who would you side with?
I'm not an "america hater", i'm a politician hater. I'm a government hater, because the government as its currently managed runs completely in the face and contrary to the spirit with which it was established. These men and women are power hungry theives who put their own agenda ahead of that of the electorate and the well being of the republic. I'm an america lover and i'm ashamed to be alive in an era of self obsession and greed.
I thinking lumping all those in the middle east in with the terrorist is a major mistake. Refering to them all as "those people" is, IMO, wrong. Malcom X and Dr. King struggled for the same goal but had different plans for victory. There were a lot of Abolitionists around in the middle of the 19th century, there was only one John Brown. I'm sure some on this board are of German ancesstory, I wonder how many support the Third Reichs view of the perfect race? The Abortionist murders? the bombing of abortion clinics?
People of all colors and creeds are capable of unspeakable acts. The People of the United States can't be both the world's police department and such social and political isolationists.
The level of hate and fascism (literal, hate mongering fascist movements) in Western Europe is growing, the Islamic world knows all too well of this hate movement in Western Europe, and I don't blame them at all about being upset with this cartoon? Do you recall in the early ninties Rudolph Guiliani removed a painting from a museum because it depicted the virgin Mary in a negative light? That story had christians up in arms for a week, I see little difference between the two instances.
