"From: Editorial Panel, Sports Illustrated Magazine"

BAMA WAS BACK

We regret the unfortunate jump to conclusions we made in the October 10, 2005 issue.  We were apparently under some kind of a Crimson haze.  Like many Alabama fans we were fooled into believing that a win or two over a few patsy teams, combined with blind luck at the end of several very close games meant that the Crimson Tide had returned to their glory days of dominance over the football landscape.  We couldn't have been more mistaken.  It is clear to us now, as it should be to our readers, that the Alabama football season was held together with smoke, mirrors and baling wire.  After the upset loss to Louisiana State we were prepared to admit we may have been mistaken, but it was also obvious to this panel that the "moral victory" was sufficient to cause us to reserve judgment.  After the dismantling at the hands of their hated rivals, we now respectfully apologize and retract our previous statements.  With this said, we now realize that the Southeastern Conference is “down” this year.  Please accept our apologies and know that we constantly endeavor to bring the finest weekly sports publication to the market with every issue.
