"Ok, so I got all my crying done last night... "
|
|
...and now feel capable, once again, of discussing matters that pertain to college football.
First off, congratulations on the win over the Dawgs in Athens last night. I know that all of you here enjoyed it and I can vouch for the fact that the Auburn fans that made the drive over enjoyed it as well. I'll have to admit that before the game, I thought Georgia would beat Auburn by 10 to 14 points. Given the long history between the two schools and football programs, I should have known better than to think we would get anything other than a battle till the end.
Both teams had ample opportunity to quit last night, and neither one took that route...and that's something I think fans of both teams can be proud of. It's evident in the fact that there were eight lead changes in the game. I think that if that game would have been played with baseball rules, Georgia and Auburn would still be slugging it out, going back and forth and it might very well continue on like that forever. In a way, with the history of this great rivalry, it will be like that as long as Georgia and Auburn play each other. However, we didn't play with baseball rules and as it turned out (and as we're all aware), Auburn had more points on the scoreboard at the end than Georgia did. I tip my hat to the Auburn players, the coaching staff and the Auburn fans for a game well played. None of us were outsiders to the game last night, but if we were, I would have to think that it was a great game for the average college football fan to watch; full of twists and turns and heartbreak and euphoria, relief and stress. As a Georgia fan that was on the losing side of this battle, I can accept the outcome when I see both teams leaving everything they had out there on the field...and both teams did that last night.
So, from this Dawg fan, congratulations once again on a well played game! College football is great, but this game between these two particular teams is and will always be a special one. Of course . we will be hoping to return the favor next year ...but until that time comes, enjoy the sweet delight that is a victory.
