...the record would be near the same.
Bill Curry won an SEC title at Bama. As did Mike Dubose. Mike Dubose? Still doubt me? Ask yourselves this, who was the best over-all coach for his respective program? Ray Perkins or Pat Dye? No doubt, Auburn pulled even with Alabama during Dye's reign and the collection of SEC hardware in the trophy case is state's evidence that Dye is the better coach. But never forget that Ray Perkins, a losing head coach his entire coaching career, went 2-2 against Pat Dye. Gene Stallings is the exclamation point to my arguement. A losing head coach his entire career, Stallings won all the marbles at Bama! I say at Bama and only at Bama could Stallings win a Natitional Title. Why did these losing coaches suceed? Talent rich recruiting.
Yes, that whorry old term tradition does win games for Alabama. Auburn fans may choose to deny the reality, but Bama will recruit the hosses simply becasue they are Bama. Like Notre-Dame, USC and Nebraska, Bama will recruit the players. And because of this fact, bad Bama coaches are decent and mediocre coaches are good. But how will history judge Mike Shula? Let history judge his head coaching ability. The loss of pro-throw&catch is not a loss in scale. Coaching aside, Bama is undeated because they have play-makers on both sides of the ball.
